IE9 - Again

Thursday, May 5th, 2011 by admin

So - I started noticing that Carbonite backup wasn’t working correctly. I didn’t have time to research it much being the busy entrepreneur that I am.

I looked and looked… Searched and searched…. Backtracked and backtracked…  Lo and behold, amazingly, I figured out that my recent installation of IE9 screwed up Carbonite..

So no - don’t install this worthless piece of junk.  Use a real browser like FireFox, Chrome or Safari!

IE9

Thursday, May 5th, 2011 by admin

Well, IE9 is around now…. Hmph.

One would have thought that after all of these years Microsoft would finally do something right.  Not so. Most sites that I go to automatically degrade to IE8. So frankly, I’m not really sure what a site looks like in IE9.

All I know is that I don’t like it. And frankly, never will like IE anything. Now - if I could just convince customers that it doesn’t matter what their sites look like in IE. ;-)

Testimonials for Joomla!

I have released a new product for Joomla 1.5.x called D3 Testimonials.

D3 Testimonials was created out of the need for a robust testimonial application for Joomla websites. It allows you to create testimonials manually from the back-end or allow your users to add a testimonial from the front end (registered users).

The administrator can auto-approve or manually approve testimonials that are submitted from the front end.

D3 Testimonials - 1.0

  • Add | Edit | Remove Testimonials from Administrative Back-End
  • Configuration settings: Number of testimonials to display | Auto Approve Submitted Testimonials
  • Testimonials can be viewed via  a menu item
  • mod_d3testimonials: show list of testimonials via module

Registered Subscribers at www.dcubedweb.com may download the package for no additional cost. Register Now!

Internet Explorer 8

Thursday, April 30th, 2009 by admin

Well… Internet Explorer 8 is out… It is kind of cool, I admit.  And finally - I can designing and developing websites for Internet Explorer 6!

“You can?”, you ask? Yes, I can! And I will! And I have. Microsoft officially ended their support for IE6 quite some time ago. If they don’t support it - neither do I!

I will admit also - Internet Explorer 8 surely does follow my non-hacked stylesheet (for Firefox 3 and Google’s Chrome, etc) - but I have found a couple of tweaks necessary here and there. Nothing major.

Cool features of IE8:

  • Less hacks to make it follow acceptable CSS styling
  • Highlight an address - right click - and get a map of where you are going…  Can someone say: “Bye bye Mapquest, Google Maps” ?
  • Comparison Shopping ( use the Live Search to shop for an item - click various icons that pop up to see if you might find the item cheaper elsewhere)
  • Compatibility icon - if a page is broken when viewing in IE8 - click the icon - see it in compatibility mode (what a misnomer, don’t ya think?)

I’m sure there are a few other things that are just as cool.

Let me be frank, however.  Personally - I can’t stand Internet Explorer as a designer/developer. I prefer Firefox and Chrome ANY day of the week! Period!
