Well… Internet Explorer 8 is out… It is kind of cool, I admit. And finally - I can designing and developing websites for Internet Explorer 6!
“You can?”, you ask? Yes, I can! And I will! And I have. Microsoft officially ended their support for IE6 quite some time ago. If they don’t support it - neither do I!
I will admit also - Internet Explorer 8 surely does follow my non-hacked stylesheet (for Firefox 3 and Google’s Chrome, etc) - but I have found a couple of tweaks necessary here and there. Nothing major.
Cool features of IE8:
- Less hacks to make it follow acceptable CSS styling
- Highlight an address - right click - and get a map of where you are going… Can someone say: “Bye bye Mapquest, Google Maps” ?
- Comparison Shopping ( use the Live Search to shop for an item - click various icons that pop up to see if you might find the item cheaper elsewhere)
- Compatibility icon - if a page is broken when viewing in IE8 - click the icon - see it in compatibility mode (what a misnomer, don’t ya think?)
I’m sure there are a few other things that are just as cool.
Let me be frank, however. Personally - I can’t stand Internet Explorer as a designer/developer. I prefer Firefox and Chrome ANY day of the week! Period!
